The association was established to serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas among members of the medical and dental professions in Liberia and in the allied sciences both nationally and internationally.
With the goal to act as the national representative body bringing together the medical & dental professions, LMDAJ serves to promote and enhance collaboration, debate and discussion about urgent & relevant topics concerning public health & health care service delivery in Liberia.
Another goal of the LMDA is to serve as a forum to facilitate the registration of all active medical doctors and dentists in Liberia in tandem with other public health service entities in Liberia that serve the public good, such as the Liberia Medical & Dental Council and other governmental organizations within Liberia.
These other organizations have a charter to further the continuing educational requirements, regulations and other accreditation criteria expected of working medical professionals within Liberia.
The Liberia Medical and Dental Association (LMDA) was established in November of 1963 as the Liberia Medical Association (LMA) with Dr. Joseph Togba as first President.
In 1970 the Dentists were added as members of the LMA, thus necessitating the change of name from LMA to LMDA.
Over the years, the LMDA has had twenty presidents, three of whom were females and three were expatriates. Today the LMDA continues to uphold its core aims and objectives and remains relevant to the Medical community and the Republic.
The Liberia Medical & Dental Association Journal is run by the Liberia Medical & Dental Association, but managed by Liberty Publisher’s Review on behalf of the LMDAJ.
The LMDAJ is committed to publishing quality journals for public consumption, with content generated by public health research professionals, medical doctors, dentists and others in the medical field in Liberia who publish research on topics of interest to the medical community for areas specific to this part of the world.
